Rupture & Repair

Oct 18, 2026  •  Doug Bell

Every relationship that matters will rupture. Where we share a home, a workplace, or a ministry team, friction is guaranteed, and even Paul and Barnabas had a falling out. The mark of spiritual maturity is the presence of repair.

Pastor Doug walked through Joseph’s story to show what repair looks like. The silence between the brothers, the cover-up that lasted decades, and Judah’s change of heart all show that rupture is unavoidable and repair is a choice. An unrepaired rupture never disappears, because you can’t heal what you bury.

Along the way he showed how forgiveness, reconciliation, and trust are three different things. Forgiveness is one-sided and releases the debt to God. Reconciliation takes two people and real repentance. Trust is earned slowly over time. He also made clear that forgiveness never means staying silent or staying where you’re in danger.

Research shows it takes more than 200 hours together to become close friends, and those hours build a buffer that helps a relationship survive hard moments.

This week, ask God who you need to forgive, own your part, take the first step, and rebuild what’s worth keeping.
